My Mission

According to the Oxford Dictionary, “Ethnomusicology is most frequently defined as the study of music in its relationship to the rest of human culture, and as the study of the musics of the world from a comparative perspective.” However, the broader effect of the study of ethnomusicology is the ability to connect individuals from entirely different backgrounds through their music. By teaching individuals about music from other cultures, they can have insight into those people from a different perspective and understand what music means to them. By researching Indian music and its relation to Indian culture, I feel closer to my heritage than ever. I want everyone to be able to feel that connection through music.

About

My name is Maya Zahir

I am from Barrington, Illinois. My musical journey started at the age of six. I learned how to play the classical flute through the Suzuki Method; at the time I had no idea what opportunities and knowledge would emerge because of it.
